Office chic in the heat

It seems we are having a lovely Indian Summer which creates a style dilemma – dressing appropriately for work when it is the same temperature we got used to whilst on holiday when all we had been wearing were bare essentials!

With the mercury rising again, many of us will be wondering what is and isn’t appropriate for the office.

With more and more workplaces adopting a smart / casual dress code it is important to dress for the weather whilst still looking professional.

Here are my 5 Top Tips to help you stay chic in the office this summer.

1) DO choose your fabrics wisely

Natural fabrics like cotton, will be more lightweight and crease less after a long day sitting down; meaning you’ll look more put together and well presented, even after a hard day of meetings and calls.

If you are in a smart / casual environment you could opt for a shirt dress or linen trousers, which tend have a more relaxed cut and therefore are cooler to wear. Ensure that the material you choose isn’t too lightweight, as this can look too casual and reveal more than you may have intended.

Gentlemen, a challenge!

The Trinity Knot.

Trinity Knot Tie photo

Gentlemen, are you ready for the Trinity Knot ?   (Ladies sneak a look and use a long, slim scarf)

I think 15 minutes of fumbling, average 3 re-tries and you will have this down pat!

Great for attention – seekers at casual events.

Ingredients : a shirt with a cut-away or medium width collar and a plain (OMG can you imagine this done with a stripey or patterned) lightish weight tie which is relatively slim all the way down because otherwise one of the folds will be wider than the other, rather ruining the effect !

Parisians in Trainers (sneakers)

Getting a new pair of trainers (sneakers to some) at the beginning of the year used to be like getting a new pencil case for the start of school.

This year whether you are a gym fan or phobic the choice available will really put a spring in your step.

Parisians however have always considered that style comes at a price, and with rules, so how are they coping with this relaxed form of footwear ?

Feeling Floral

We should all be feeling floral. Spring has officially sprung, our days are longer and this week the skies are brighter.

Now is the perfect time to take stock of your wardrobe, de-clutter and pick up some fresh pieces for the months ahead.

If you haven’t tried florals before then now is the time and in this newsletter I hope to give you some inspiration on how to style them for Spring.

Keep It Simple

Floral prints can work for the office when paired with chic, tailored pieces.

A pencil skirt with a subtle floral design will ensure you don’t look too ‘girly’ in a working environment.

Wear with a simple top and pick out one of the colours from the print with your accessories to pull your look together.

Add an Accent

If you don’t want to go all-out with flowery prints then consider an accent piece instead. A floral pair of shoes, a bag or even a belt will all add a fresh touch to an existing outfit to bring you right up-to-date for the season ahead.

Floral and stripes

Mix It Up

They may seem an unlikely pairing, but florals work beautifully with stripes!

To ensure your look feels cohesive when mixing patterns, make sure you keep the colour ways harmonious – tie it all together by choosing one main colour for your outfit with a few accents colours to complement it.

Do send your photos of your new outfits. Would love to hear from you.

Not sure whether florals are for you ? Why not invest in a Style Consultation ?

Discover whether patterned fabrics are for you and why the size of the pattern and the weight of the fabric matter so much. More importantly you will be able to create stylish outfits effortlessly.
